If you do this right, you can help reduce damage to your hair, reduce frizz, look put together and save time in your mornings.
TIP #1 : ZIG ZAG PART
This is going to help there not be a hard line set into your hair once your hair dries. The zig zags will overlap on each other once your hair is released from your heatless curls and it will give you some natural volume.
TIP #2: BLOWDRY OR AIR DRY HAIR
Should be 50-75% dry before wrapping hair. If your hair is super thin and drys very fast it can be 50% dry or less. Medium density hair should be around 50-60% dry. High density hair should be around 70% dry prior to wrapping.
There are three types of chemical bonds in hair. When hair is wet, the hydrogen bond is broken. Your hair is literally weaker when it’s wet. If you wrap your hair for heatless curls while its still completely wet you can increase damage to your hair because it’s in a vulnerable state. Making sure your hair is partially dry will help prevent that. If you have a lot of hair or coarse hair, wrapping it while wet will also increase bacterial growth and mold D: .
TIP #3: CONDITIONER, LEAVE INS, AND OILS
Apply this when hair is wet.
If you read the ingredients, leave-in conditioners and conditioners are the exact same thing just leave-in conditioners are watered down. You can make your own at home or just use a small amount of conditioner on your ends. Don’t put so much to where you’re going to be greasy. The amount varies from each person due to texture, density, and length. So just star with a small pea sized amount then slowly increase if needed. You should feel a light layer of conditioner on your mids to ends.
Conditioners and hair oils are so important for everyone’s hair. Our hair is 80-90% keratin (protein) and the rest is in moisture (water, carbohydrates and lipids). Since there’s so little moisture in our hair everything affects it. Washing it, heat styling, color, chemical services and harsh products. I like to recommend jojoba oil as a hair oil. if you have thinner hair texture then you most likely will not need any hair oil unless you have a higher density and/ or dry hair. If you want to know some products I recommend please check out my Amazon Store Front , my Benable Recommendations List, or purchase some from my business, Beauty By Kurryious, when you come get your hair done.
TIP #4: USE MOUSSE OR GEL
This can be applied after conditioner and oils when hair is wet or damp. This is definitely one of the most important tip and trick to get your heatless curls to last all day. You don’t need to apply so much that you’re crunchy. I think we all hate that feeling. If you apply a small amount right before wrapping it, especially when your hair is new to heatless curls, this will help so much in reducing frizz and extending the time that your style lasts. This combined with your conditioner and some hair oil will be *chefs kiss*. So silky and soft yet the curls/waves will last. The exact amounts depend on the amount of hair you have and hair texture. If it helps, I have thick coarse hair with medium-high density. I use around a quarter size of gel for each half of my head when my hair is around shoulder length
TIP 5: DON'T FORGET HAIR FROM BACK OF HEAD
If you know how to French braid or Dutch braid, this will be easier for you to understand. So I noticed in many of the tutorials I watched, people only bring in sections of hair from the front near their face and forget about the back. Then, the back isn’t curly or wavy. Also taking hair from the back of your head will help prevent this.
HOW I DO MY OWN
I wait until after i’ve applied my makeup to remove them from my hair. My hair is thick and dense, so even drying my hair 80% sometimes its still damp in the morning. It also helps keep hair out of your face while putting on your makeup. When my hair was shorter; the belt would fall out of my hair easier. I would reroll my hair in the morning prior to putting on makeup to help it set better.
PLEASE don’t get discouraged, each time you do it it’ll get easier and easier. It’ll slowly start getting less frizzy. I remember when I first started doing it my hair was SO damaged so my hair would still frizz. That’s totally normal! Just stick trust and stick to the process. Eventually if you’re doing deep conditions and this instead of heat styling, your hair gets SO soft
BONUS TIPS
1. Make sure your scarf, romper belt, robe belt, or long socks is longer than your hair. When you wrap it, it’s going to shrink up.
2. If you didn’t use mousse when wrapping your hair, then make sure to hairspray your hair after removing the belt/scarf and after shaking out your hair.
3. They do loosen throughout the day. So, I prefer to wrap them with smaller sections than what you want them to look like.
4. The more often you do this, the more your hair will get used to it and your curls or waves will last longer.
5. To create a bigger, looser wave take thicker sections of hair. To make smaller or tighter curls, take smaller sections.
6. If you do curl your hair with a curling iron or flat iron, do them all going away from your face. Then at night wrap your hair in the heatless curls method and you won’t need to curl your hair again the following days using heat.
